Here are our four Team Nutrition messages:

  • -Eat a variety of foods.
  • -Eat more fruits, vegetables, and grains.
  • -Eat lower fat foods more often.
  • -Be physically active.

Cool Treats during Summer Heat

Ice cream and frozen yogurt are some of the traditional treats that help beat the heat during summer months. Remember to count them as part of your daily nutritional and calorie intake.
Keep in mind that ice cream contains more fat than most types of frozen yogurt, so be sure to check the Nutrition Facts panel on the package. Look for reduced-fat versions of ice cream and frozen yogurt.
While juice bars, fruit smoothies and other icy treats may provide some vitamins and minerals, they tend to contain more sugar than nutritional benefits. However, these frozen treats often have fewer calories than ice cream, so try to choose the 100 percent fruit juice options without the added sugar.
If you're looking for a cool chocolate fix without the calories and fat of ice cream, try frozen chocolate pops, which often are low-fat or fat-free. You can also make your own pops at home using an ice cube tray and 100 percent fruit juice.
